organic kimono

Kimono en soie, court, sur robe

Spun and woven by hand using ancestral techniques, our organic kimonos are created by craftswomen from rural cooperatives in India. Their ethical and eco-responsible manufacturing and distribution circuit respects the sustainability objectives set by the United Nations. Unique and timeless, the Nimboo organic kimonos are designed in Ahimsa silk, an age-old vegan textile, or with a blend of GOTS-certified linen and cotton. Dyed using flowers and fruits from offerings to Hindu temples, our ecological kimonos are exceptional pieces, gentle on you and on the planet.

How to choose an organic kimono?

Our kimonos are organic, like our entire catalog, but they also incorporate an ethical and sustainable life cycle based on a low-carbon circular economy. Woven by craftswomen from Indian communities, our organic kimonos in peace silk, linen and ecological cotton are produced with care and dignity in the workshops of our partners.

Organic kimono: sustainability criteria

Environmental sustainability is about conserving our planet's natural resources and protecting our ecosystem. Therefore, the making of an organic kimono does not only consist in choosing ecological textiles , but in taking into account all its manufacturing and distribution circuit.

At Nimboo, we look at every step of our development model to design quality eco-responsible kimonos with minimal impact on the environment . The water, energy and carbon consumption of our company, our products and our partners is monitored and minimized and we recycle all our materials.

Our zero waste policy and our love for nature pushes us to highlight traditional know-how, passed down for generations in the most remote regions of India. The organic Khadi, symbol of autonomy and self-sufficiency of the Indian people so dear to Gandhi, is an integral part of our collections. We spin and weave our eco-friendly fabrics and create our own vegetable dyes.

The wonderful colors of our organic kimonos come from the flowers and fruits thrown around Hindu temples during ceremonies. Marigold and hibiscus petals, coconut, madder, turmeric, rose, pomegranate or even indigo are collected and processed by our craftswomen, then applied to our fabrics. The water used during tinting is reused throughout the coloring process.

Our kimonos are thus not only ecological, but they are also unique. Observe the imprint left by the petals, the geometric design of the fibers and the infinite softness of the material... Your organic kimono is unlike any other!

The peace silk, linen and cotton we use are GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified and we work with eco-responsible suppliers who use solar panels. Our delivery methods are CO2 neutral and we have substituted our plastic packaging with biodegradable fabric scraps or cornstarch packaging solutions.

Ethical kimono: social criteria

If current brands tend to ride the ecological wave, with more or less sustainable practices, their social impact often remains obscure. However, an ecologically responsible development model can also benefit people and this is part of our objectives at Nimboo.

Our roadmap is directly in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which aim in particular to fight against social inequalities in the world. Nimboo's social commitment is based on two main pillars: the emancipation of women and the support of marginalized people .

It is for this reason that we have chosen to collaborate with craftsmen's cooperatives in rural communities, made up mainly of low-caste women. In addition to perfectly mastering the art of weaving, in particular that of the precious silk of peace, our craftswomen work in dignified conditions and receive a fair wage. Their financial autonomy benefits both the economic activity of their village and access to education for their children.

Our collection of handmade kimonos therefore goes against the grain of the usual industrial circuits by meeting strict requirements of ecological and social sustainability. We also use “cruelty free” fabrics such as Ahimsa silk, which comes from organic sericulture that extracts the silkworm without killing it… For vegan, ethical, ecological and incredibly soft kimonos.

Organic silk kimono

The silk kimono of peace is a must-have piece in our catalog. Elegant and soft, this eco-friendly silk kimono is made with Ahmisa silk which comes from an ancestral Indian sericulture. Hand-harvested by artisans in the Assam region, the production of this ethical silk directly benefits women in the community.

From a production that respects the animal, the silk of peace is also spun and woven by hand, then dyed and fixed with ancestral natural techniques. The Nimboo ecological silk kimono is therefore ideal for sensitive skin and all people concerned about respecting animals and the environment.

Linen and organic cotton kimono

Thicker than our organic silk kimonos, eco-friendly linen and cotton kimonos are usually made with 50% cotton and 50% linen. Their cut is more akin to traditional Japanese kimonos, yukatas.

Suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, these organic cotton and linen kimonos come from the Maharashtra region of India. Their comfortable format and the quality of their GOTS certified fabric will transform your evenings into real cocooning moments.
